BreastCheck is an Irish Government-funded programme providing free national breast screening to eligible women, on an area by area basis, every two years, using a combination of static units and mobile units. Women age 50-64 were eligible since the commencement of the programme in 1997. The Breastcheck Western Unit in Galway have now install the latest Affirm Prone Biopsy table.
Dr Catherine Glynn, consultant radiologist at the Galway Breastcheck Unit commented: We have recently installed the new Affirm Prone Biopsy table as a replacement for our previous prone table. The addition of the facility of tomosynthesis for prone biopsies and also the lateral arm facility on the prone table are very useful additions to the Unit and will facilitate our ability to work up and biopsy lesions, such as, for example, calcifications in very thin breasts, which previously would have been more challenging to biopsy stereotactically. The layout and technical features of the table are are user friendly and straightforward.
